1916 Rising Fingerprint Machine for auction

The device used to take the fingerprints of the Irish martyrs executed after the 1916 Rising is going under the hammer this week.The ink press housed in its original wooden casket is clearly identified by a metal memorial plaque listing each of the 14 martyrs that were executed.The historical piece is set to go for auction at the next Mullock Madeley specialist auction of historical documents, autographs and memorabilia at Ludlow Racecourse in Shropshire. It is expected to sell for between £10,000 and £15,000.Green Party member and experienced auctioneer Noel Lynch said the item was extremely important and would likely surpass its estimate.
