Sligo had the lowest priced land last year

THE lowest price paid at an auction for land in the country last year was in County Sligo.A farm of 340 acres of mountain commonage at Cloonacool was sold for E134,000. That works out at just E394 an acre. That brought the average price of land sold at auction last year in the county down to just E3,543 per acre. The figures are contained in the Farming Independent’s annual land price survey. The survey doesn’t give a complete picture of land sales generally as it is based purely on auction sales reported in 2005 and does not take into account private sales.Indeed in the case of Sligo it probably gives a somewhat distorted picture of the price of land in the countyAccording to the survey a total of 519 acres was sold for E1.839 million in the county.
