Sligo Senator hits back after auctioneers accused of being cowboys and racketeers

Sligo Fianna Fail Senator, Eamon Scanlon, has clashed with Senator Shane Ross over his claims that the auctioneering profession in Ireland consists of a bunch of cowboys and racketeers.
Senator Scanlon, himself an auctioneer, has rejected the claims made by Senator Ross in a speech to the Seanad.
Senator Ross called on the Government to step in an end what he insisted was widespread abuse among auctioneers concerning the so called Advised Minimum Value system.
He claimed the profession badly need to be regulated.
But Senator Scanlon defended his fellow auctioneers, and attacked Senator Ross for making such claims.
