The winning bid was $1,100 when the Internet auction closed Monday morning and was submitted by New York City resident Tye Miksis, according to WPMI reporter Brian Johnson. The bidder, identified on the auction service by the handle “brooklynbotox,” has contacted the TV station and made arrangements to pay for the sketch, Johnson said.
Miksis’ opening bid was $791. There were 74 bids in all, placed by various eBay members.
Johnson, who filed the initial WPMI report about the alleged leprechaun sightings on March 14, said the auction proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
He said the crude pencil sketch that is supposed to depict a leprechaun’s head was drawn by Nina Thomas-Brown, a resident of the Crichton community. For his March 14 news report, Johnson interviewed residents who claimed to have seen something or someone resembling a leprechaun in a tree on Le Cren Street near Bay Shore Avenue.
