Setanta Wins Premiership Auction

Published May 5th, 2006

BSkyB’s stranglehold on live premiership soccer is set to be broken after Setanta, the Irish pay TV operator, secured at least one package of games under auction today.
The Premier League will unveil the winners of the three remaining live TV packages, for 23 games each per season, at 4.45pm today and no official confirmation will be issued until then because of the potential impact on BSkyB’s share price.

However, it is understood the Setanta camp is already celebrating. It put in for two of the six live TV rights packages on offer - three were awarded to BSkyB last week and today’s auction centred on the remaining three.
