Google Checkout banned on eBay

EBay Inc., owner of the PayPal online payment service, banned customers from using a rival product from Google Inc. when trading goods online.

Google Checkout is listed among 39 online payment services that aren’t permitted on EBay, the San Jose, California-based company’s Web site shows today. EBay is still testing Google’s software, spokeswoman Catherine England said.

The decision by EBay to ban Google’s payment service, introduced last week, comes amid mounting rivalry between the two Silicon Valley companies. Google, the most-used Internet search engine, has denied that its payment service competes with PayPal. Some analysts don’t agree.
