David Jesse, the managing director at Ebay Ireland, says his company would like to see universal availability for broadband at a low price here as it would make Ebay’s service better. He says that if a person wants to make a living out of being an Ebay seller, broadband makes his business easier and more productive. Regarding the decision to come to Ireland, Ebay already had 200,000 members in Ireland before the Ebay.ie service was launched. This compares to about 175,000 broadband users in the country at the time.

Mr Jesse says that as the company’s Irish operations are based in Dublin, it had broadband from its start-up because of the easy availability of the service in the city. He says having broadband was a necessity for the company from the start. He says that both demand and availability is equally important in the broadband market, with supply following demand and demand following supply.
