Irish eBay sellers get boost for their business

Irish businesses looking for different routes to market can now sell their wares on eBay as the software firm ChannelAdvisor is making its e-commerce management technology compatible with the auction provider’s Irish website.

ChannelAdvisor’s technology and services are aimed at cutting down the administrative overhead involved in selling over the internet. The company said it works with business of all sizes, from individual traders to larger retailers, letting them automate and manage their online auction business on eBay Ireland.

The UK company processes around £50m sterling per month in gross merchandise volume on behalf of its customers, which include Nokia, Best Buy, Sears and Motorola. There’s also a considerable niche for smaller businesses: according to research from AC Nielsen International, 170,000 people across the EU make their living from eBay or use it as their secondary source of income.

eBay launched its dedicated Irish website at www.eBay.ie in June of last year. At the time, there were more than 200,000 registered Irish users already buying and selling on other eBay sites. Figures from the company show that Irish eBayers sell one item per minute and buy at even faster rate – one item every 20 seconds.

The most popular Irish categories include computing and collectables. Interestingly, an Irish buyer buys an item of auto parts every five minutes.

Dublin-based Luzern Technology Solutions, which sells on six European eBay sites, has been working with ChannelAdvisor for more than two years to automate and scale its sales through eBay. Patrick Sherlock, the company’s chief technology officer, commented: “ChannelAdvisor’s support for eBay Ireland represents a massive opportunity for innovative and growing businesses who want to sell in a strong and powerful economy and to an increasingly impressive consumer demographic.â€Â
