A small town in North Carolina will be the unlikely venue for a major auction of Irish art next month. The pieces on sale are expected to fetch about $1 million (€770,000).
Among the works that will go under the hammer in Flat Rock, North Carolina, are four watercolours by Louis Le Brocquy and two oil paintings by Jack B Yeats. Other Irish painters represented include Nano Reid, Nathaniel Hone and Gerald Dillon. The sale will be run by local auctioneer Richard D Hatch and Associates.
All the works are drawn from the collection of Alan Brush, who was born near Dublin in 1918. He and his first wife Meg were active patrons of Irish art. Meg Brush was an amateur painter, and the couple were close friends with the owners of the Victor Waddington Galleries in Dublin.
