Maze Prison rubble on eBay

Published April 5th, 2007

Rubble from the demolition of the Maze Prison is being sold on internet auction site eBay - just days after Government officials tried to stop it.

But the five bits of concrete up for sale may be suspect: the seller claims they are from an H-Block that, according to the Government, is still standing.

On the UK and US versions of eBay, 11lb lumps are being offered to bidders alongside pictures of the prison’s perimeter wall being knocked down on Monday.

“An absolute gem of memorabilia for anyone with an interest in the Northern Ireland Troubles and especially the republican hunger strikers,” the advertisement says.

But the seller also claims the rubble comes from H4, a block “where the republican hunger strikers were held”.

Demolition of the H-blocks is not scheduled to begin until later this year, according to the Office of the First and Deputy First Ministers. Belfast T
