Le Brocquy painting at Dolans Art Auction

Published April 25th, 2007

A painting by Irish artist Louis Le Brocquy, titled ‘Summer Fruit - Apple, Lemon and Orange’, is expected to fetch over 140,000 Euro at Dolan’s Art Auction on Monday 30 April in the Marriott Hotel, Galway.

More than 200 works by some of Ireland’s top artists, including important works by Jack B Yeats, John Shinnors, Cecil Maguire, Pauline Bewick, George Campbell, Sean O’Sullivan and Kenneth Webb, will also go under the hammer on the night.

A notable highlight of the auction will be the sale of a piece by Connemara artist, Cecil Maguire, titled ‘The Corpus Christi Procession Roundstone’. An important historical work, it is expected to fetch in the region of ?25,000 - ?30,000. According to Niall Dolan, “This is Maguire at his best. The view of Roundstone is an important example of his work, capturing a moment in Roundstone Village life that will very likely ever be seen again.”

In addition to featuring the work of notable Galway artists Sarah Kyne (Moycullen) and Rosemary Carr (Cashel), this month’s auction will also include the work of a number of young emerging artists, who are very likely to become household names. Sian Maguire, daughter of well-known artist, Cecil Maguire is one to note. Undoubtedly influenced by her father, she displays her own unquestionable style and talent. Galway artist Bridie Ryan also displays enormous potential, as indeed does Phoebe Cope, daughter of Elizabeth Cope, who has emerged as an artistic force to challenge her mother.

Dolan’s Art Auction House has firmly established itself as the premier auction house outside of Dublin. Based in Galway, it is now a key player in Irish art, offering quality and service. The success of its auctions to date has been impressive with Dolan’s achieving record auction prices for important Irish artists.

Having established themselves in the West, and following the success of their debut auction in Limerick last month, Dolans are now extending to Sligo and the North West. Over 200 paintings will be on view in the Marriott from 10am to 8pm Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 April and from 10am to 2pm on Monday 30 April, before going under the hammer at 6.30pm that evening.
