Mayo sale a rarity in slow market

Published May 8th, 2007

THE land market in Mayo has been quiet this year. It is not that prices are poor but, rather, that very few farms have been auctioned. However, the sale of a C.67-acre residential farm near Balla should stir things up.

A price in excess of €900,000 is being sought for Drimadoon House and lands. But given that the farm is probably one of the most complete units to come on the market in the county for some time, it could very well make more.

The property is located 1.5 miles from the village of Balla and eight miles from Castlebar. The farm comes with a fine residence and a full range of modern farm buildings.

The residence is a traditional, two-storey farmhouse which was built around 80 years ago. It has four bedrooms and oil-fired central heating has been installed.

According to Raymond Clarke of Clarke Auctioneers, the lands are generally of good quality, apart from a four-acre turlough which forms in the field below the house.

The farm has been in REPS for the last number of years, consequently the fences are all of a high standard and the property has generally been well maintained.

The property goes to auction at the The Olde Woods Hotel in Balla on May 31. unison.ie
