One of Galway’s best-known pubs. Cullinane’s Savoy Bar, has been sold at auction to an unknown buyer for the record price of €8.1 million

The property was sold jointly by Colm O’Donnellan of O’Donnellan Joyce Auctioneers, and Galway Real Estate. The auction took place last Friday, and there were “three or four bidders”, according to a spokesperson for Mr O’Donnellan.

The property included a 2,800 sq ft. licensed premises and the adjoining Eglinton Bookmakers with eight substantial townhouses above. The property has been in the Cullinane family since 1938 and was rebuilt 11 years ago. Cullinane’s was one of Galway’s best known sporting pubs, popular with supporters of hurling, rugby and racing.

Mr O’Donnellan said his company was delighted with the tremendous price, adding that it highlighted the strong demand for high profile properties in the city.
